Guildford City Football Club has announced that Tristan Rees has stepped down as team manager.

The decision comes less than a week after the team avoided relegation with a home draw against Epsom & Ewell. They finished third from bottom.

After a very bright start to the season, at one point they topped their division, the city side struggled to pick up points and slipped steadily down the league until the danger of relegation threatened, somewhat assuaged by the fact that only one team was relegated this season to balance numbers in the different divisions.

Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, Guildford City Football Club and manager TristanRees have mutually decided to part company.

While the results did not match up to the initial promise that the young squad showed at the
start of the season, the original intention of both the Club and of the manager was always to focus on the development of young, mostly local talent.

In that respect, Tristan fulfilled the Club’s wishes, giving a host of young players valuable experience, many of whom were playing their first season in adult football.

With the season now concluded both Tristan and the Club agreed it would be an appropriate time to step aside and enjoy spending more time with his young family. However, we are pleased to say that he will remain with Guildford City FC in a different capacity.z

There were innumerable team changes throughout the season which could not have helped performance continuity and fans found it hard to keep track.

Although the announcement states that the manager and club “have mutually decided to part company” the statement also says that Rees will stay with the club in another capacity.

The full statement reads:

We sincerely thank him for all the hard work that he and his backroom staff have put in this season; their attitude and determination to stick at it was exemplary, as shown on the final day of the season.

The Club will begin looking for a new manager immediately. Expressions of interest should be sent to the Club Secretary at: barry.underwood1@outlook.com by 5pm on 10 May 2024.
