Hear Guildford’s leading local historian and Dragon NEWS writer David Rose give a fascinating insight into his methods of research – and the huge archive of material he has collected, that have inspired his many books, articles in the media, talks and guided walks.

His illustrated talk takes place at Salters Gallery in Castle Street on Saturday, November 8, at 2.30pm. Plus, his two new local history books will be on sale and David will be pleased to sign copies.

While acknowledging many who have helped and freely supplied him with material and photos, it will pull no punches, as David will also talk about the frustrations he sometimes encounters with museums, records centres and other establishments over local history research.

David’s talk will not only focus on his interest in Guildford’s past, but other history topics he keenly researches – some of which have not yet been published in print or on the internet.

The talk coincides with two new books David has just had published. His Great War Britain Guildford Remembering 1914-18, is published by The History Press at £12.99. Stoughton A Walk Through Time is the third in a self-published series of local history pocket-sized books he has co-written with Martin Giles. Copies are £6. The two previous books in the series cover Guildford town centre and the village of St Catherine’s.
