I say to our local politicians, “A plague on all your houses!”
Bawling political slogans at each other gets us precisely nowhere. No one political party has a monopoly on wisdom. No one political party can provide the answers to today’s incredibly complex problems – certainly not by exchanging insults whether in Parliament, Millmead or via the media.
GBC councillors certainly have some explaining to do; they cannot dump all the blame for the deficit on SCC and the Government. The millions spent on the Slyfield/Clay Lane fiasco and the ill-fated “Pop-up Village” could have been put to much better use.
I am no doubt being very naive but I really would like to see an outbreak of honesty from councillors and officers; admit errors, stop hiding behind the barricades and deal honestly with us, the residents, and above all stop patronising us. Talk – and listen – to us and each other, stop trying to score political points and try courteous reasoned argument.
You never know, it might just have a positive effect.
