Letter: I Can See Why It Takes Days for Dumped E-bikes To Be Collected

Beryl e-bike dumped

From Dave Middleton

In response to: Dumped E-bike Provokes Questions

I note that Beryl failed to answer the Dragon News’ question about how many staff were employed to collect bikes left away from designated parking stations.

Looking at their penalty fees system I can also perhaps see why it takes so long for them to collect abandoned bikes, particularly those left outside the operating zone.

£10.00 for bikes left outside a Beryl Bay.
£25.00 for bikes left outside the operating zone.
£80.00 for bikes left outside the operating zone and not returned within 24 hours.

Clearly it’s in the interests of Beryl to leave bikes that have been abandoned outside the operating zone for more than 24 hours as they can bill the last user more!

This probably explains why, when I reported an abandoned Beryl outside the current scheme’s zone, on Robin Way, Stoughton, it took a week for it to be removed and their call handler told me it could take up to two weeks for collection.
