Shop Assistant Pushed To Ground In Tunsgate Armed Robbery

A jewellery shop assistant in Tunsgate was pushed to the ground and threatened with a gun in a robbery on Friday (10 Aug).

The robbery, which took place at jewellers Cry for the Moon at around 3pm, was committed by two men who escaped with several items of jewellery. The number of items stolen and their value is not yet known.

The two male robbers are described as white, and aged between 40 and 45. One was about 5ft 6in, slightly overweight and with missing teeth and may have had a tattoo or marking on his right arm. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a dark t-shirt and black-rimmed glasses. The second was over 6ft, of medium build and wearing a light coloured cap, brown shorts and dirty trainers.

The robbers escaped in a silver Mercedes C180, registration number LR52 LZF. The car headed off in the direction of Sydenham Road. The getaway car was driven by a white woman with auburn or light brown hair. She did not enter the shop.

Investigating officer Detective Constable David Pellatt of Guildford CID, said: “Since the robbery took place on Friday, officers have been working around the clock in a bid to locate the vehicle which we believe the offenders left the scene in and I would appeal to anyone who has seen this vehicle to contact Surrey Police as a matter of urgency.

“The vehicle may have travelled out of the Surrey area following the incident and I would urge anyone who either saw it around the time of the incident or who has seen it since to make contact with officers.

“This was a frightening ordeal for staff at the jewellery store and we are doing all we can to find those responsible for this appalling act and to bring them to justice.”

Today (Mon 13 Aug) obvious security measures were in place outside the shop. Anyone who wished to enter the premises was required to use an entry warning system (being used by the man in the white shirt in the photo).

Surrey Police is appealing for information on the vehicle described. Officers have been carrying out enquiries and reassurance visits in the local area and would urge anyone who may have seen the vehicle or know who is responsible for the robbery to contact them on 101 quoting reference GD/12/7360.
