I challenge anyone to reveal a worse maintained road surface in Guildford than The Mount.
Despite logging on numerous occasions the ruts and potholes on the Surrey County Council website over the past 15 months I have seen no action and had no response. The yellow road markings have almost completely disappeared with the result that cars can park dangerously, but not illegally, at the crossroad junction with Wodeland Avenue and Mount Pleasant.
We have frequent articulated lorry traffic because of the constant building work on the Green Lane. This has contributed to the rutted and pitted surface of the road. The sheer weight of the lorries probably also caused the mains leakage reported on the St Catherine’s Village Website in April.
Parents delivering their young children to St Nicolas School have to take their chances as the traffic rushes past the extremely narrow and steep pavements.
The road is part of the National Cycle Network but has been left to decay.
Will anyone in SCC respond and let us know if they know they are responsible for the road surface?

The County are aware of this deterioration which has not been helped by the heavy plant used in the buildings on the bridleway.

If your road surface is so worn that it is beginning to break up in patches that let in water, take 3-4 close-up photos of them with someone or something beside them to indicate their scale, and, most importantly, 2-3 longer views of the road to show the extent of the damage.
Caption and mail them with a polite covering letter to

Explain to whom you wrote/spoke, approximately when, and their reaction.
You could be pleasantly surprised providing yours is a genuinely severe case.

I have reported the condition of this top half of The Mount to the Highways Department. I sit on the sub-committee that sets the road surfacing programme and I hope that, when funds are available, this section of The Mount will be resurfaced in the same way I got the bottom half done twelve months ago.
This week Iveagh Road will be resurfaced which follows Irwin, Scillonian and Poltimore Roads, Mountside, Mareschal, Bannisters and Markenfield which were resurfaced recently. I shall also be pushing for Millmead Terrace and Bury Street to be placed high on the programme.
We are still working through a large backlog of road works from our old Highways Contract contractors – please have a little more patience!
