Waterstones Guildford welcomes internationally bestselling author Philippa Gregory to its store on Thursday, August 16, at 7pm, to celebrate the publication on the same day of the fourth in The Cousins’ War series, The Kingmaker’s Daughter.
Kenyan-born, Philippa Gregory has a PhD in 17th-century literature, which led her to carve out a hugely successful career as a historical novelist, with most of her books being set in the Tudor period and 16th century. Now in her 25th year as an author, Gregory regularly tops the bestsellers and is probably most well known for The Other Boleyn Girl, which was made in to a successful film in 2008, starring Scarlett Johansson and Eric Bana.
The Kingmaker’s Daughter, published by Simon & Schuster at £18.99 continues the story started in The White Queen, and continued through The Red Queen and The Lady of the Rivers, which traces the War of the Roses and the Plantagenet family. The latest novel explores the rivalry surrounding two sisters, the daughters of ‘Warwick the Kingmaker’, and the court of Edward IV.
The manger of Waterstones Guildford, Erika Ling, said: “We feel really privileged that Philippa Gregory is visiting Guildford on the day of publication of The Kingmaker’s Daughter. It is a testament to how popular she is with our customers. She has an international reputation as a compelling and talented author and we can’t wait to hear her talk about her career and books.”
Tickets for the event are £5 (£3 for Waterstones loyalty cardholders) and are available by calling the store on 01483 536366, or visiting the bookshop.
