A controversial proposal for a new Park & Ride by the Surrey Sports Park is to be discussed at a public meeting at Park Barn Centre off Park Barn Drive.
Organisers Park Barn & Westborough Community Association and Ashenden Residents Association have arranged the meeting to be held at 7pm on Thursday 4th October so that people living in the Westborough and Onslow wards of Guildford can find out more about the proposals for the Park & Ride site at on Surrey University land.
Guildford Borough Council have put in a planning application for the Onslow Park & Ride site for 550 vehicles which will be decided by the Guildford Planning Committee within the next few weeks.
Concerns have been expressed about the impact a new Park & Ride facility will have on nearby roads, already very congested during rush hour periods. Roadworks underway at Egerton Road are in preparation for the expected installation.
Senior officers from both Surrey County Council and Guildford Borough Council will be at the meeting to explain what the proposals are, to answer questions and to listen to residents’ comments.
Wayne McShane, Chairman of Park Barn & Westborough Community Association said: “Very few people living in the two wards know anything about the application and how it is likely to affect them. We hope that everyone who feels that they may be affected by the application will come along. The meeting will end by 9pm.”

It will of course benefit the University, if not the locality, for it will provide them with a new car park and yet another bus service into the town.
Another example of a project being ordained by people that do not live in the area or will have to live with the consequences.
Guildford needs its own Town Council.

A small correction – the meeting is going to be held at the Park Barn Centre which is near Kings College and can be reached off Park Barn Drive. Park Barn Community Centre is a different building.
Thank you Fiona for pointing that out. Article corrected and retweeted. Martin Giles

The A3 widening scheme has been suspended following cuts in the road programme. So now the current access to the Onslow Park and Ride can only be independently progressed by Guildford Borough Council (GBC) from the signalised hospital junction…
