The Restaurant at Debenhams

There has been a restaurant at Debenhams since it opened in the early 1960s. But by the 1980s there were few places in Guildford town centre to eat and drink during the daytime. Now there are lots of coffee shops and cafes. However, The Restaurant at Debenhams continues to this day and has a lot to offer.

With views over the river at Millmead, this is a large and spacious place to enjoy a snack or a main meal. If the weather is nice (and not raining) there is seating outside beside the river.

The decor gives it a light modern feel. There is a large self service area and all that’s on offer is clearly displayed. Choose from cakes, sandwiches and paninis, to filled jacket potatoes, soups and hearty breakfasts. There is also a good selection of food for children.

Tea time at Debenhams.

A pot of tea was excellent value at £1.65. Coffee in a generous sized cup at £2.05 was pretty good. A croissant at £1.69 was okay, while a Belgian bun at £1.75 tasted rather fine.

The Restaurant at Debenhams is light and spacious.

There was an easy connection to wi-fi once you gave it a go. When we visited, the connection set up was new and the staff admitted they were just getting the hang of how it worked. Nevertheless, that was extremely honest of them, and overall they were pleasant and helpful. As tables were vacated, staff were quickly on hand to clear away.
