This is a weekly stroll down memory lane showing how Guildford used to look – but can you recognise the locations?
I have been running this feature on our St Catherine’s Village website for some months now. It has built up a good following with a number of readers leaving a reply each week as to where they think the various locations of the photos are.
You can see all the previous posts on this website too. However, the name of the feature is now changing from Can You Identify These Locations? to the much simpler Where Is This?
As always, first off are the answers to last week’s two mystery photos (Can You Identify These Locations? 31). The top view showed the Upper High Street in the foreground with Sydenham Road beyond. It dates to about the 1980s. The second photo was taken some 70 or 80 years ago and shows the Bethel Chapel in The Bars, off Stoke Road.
If you look at the previous post, click here, you will see those who left a reply. Most recognised the Upper High Street, while the Bethal Chapel was a little harder. But well done to you all.
On to this week’s images. Seen above is a row of shops taken in the 1950s. Any idea which road?
And below, can anyone remember what this building was? And the location or road?
If you think you know, leave a reply in the box below. All replies will be posted at the same time in about a week’s time, along with a new post with the answers to this week’s photos, and the next pair of images.
