Answers to last week’s images first. The mystery date (as photographed by Richard Bailey) appears on a sign that marks the site of the former Guildford town wharf – that’s between the Town Bridge and the Bridge Street bridge, on the opposite bank of the river to the car park beside the George Abbot pub.

The sign on which lat week's mystery date appears?

Click here to see last week’s post again. All those who replied believed it to be the sign beside Millmead Lock. That is also a sign placed by the National Trust, I’ll have to check to see whether it carries the same date!

As for the vintage photo, I was not certain where it was. However, David and Ann Bailey have supplied what I am now sure is the exact location – Onslow Road, as viewed from Stoke Road.

This week’s mystery photo dates from about the late 1970s and shows some road works in Guildford town centre near a pedestrian crossing.

Do you know where this is?

Will the John Collier store be the give away here? So name the road please?

And for the mystery date which appears on either a sign, notice or perhaps a structure and photographed by Richard Bailey, do you know where it is?

Do you know the location of this date?

If you think you know the answers, leave a reply in the box below. All replies will be posted at the same time in about a week’s time, along with a new post with the answers to this week’s photo and mystery date, and the next pair of images.

The first picture of the road works is where the High Street now meets Millbrook, taken from where Debenhams store is. John Collier shop was on the corner of Friary Street and High Street.

We are looking along Millbrook towards the station, the Yvonne Arnaud behind us. John Colliers is now Wagamamas, Debenhams is on the left and the old Job Centre on the right.
