Over 2,000 girls and boys in Beaver Scouts and Rainbows aged between 5-8 from Guildford and Surrey and more than 500 adult leaders had their own summer adventure in Bazzaz 2022 at Merrist Wood in Worplesdon on Saturday, May 21.
Neil Wibberley, the Scouts county media manager, said: “This is the first large event since covid restrictions were lifted. Young people and leaders were excited at being able to participate in a large activity day.
“There were over 100 activities to challenge the youngsters from rock climbing to caving, go-karts, circus skills and cooking. For many, it was their biggest scouting adventure yet.”
“The weather couldn’t have been kinder. We had support from many external organisations. Mayors and dignitaries visited from across Surrey and were shown around by the Jamboree participants who are going to South Korea in 2023.”
Bazzaz takes place every three years and the children had a fun day out. Matthew, 7, from Guildford said: “It was great! I enjoyed caving most because it was challenging and I made a new friend”
Jacob, 6, from Dorking said: “I enjoyed going on the inflatables most as it was really fun”.
Emily, 6, from Woking said: “It was great! I enjoyed climbing because I haven’t tried that before”
And it wasn’t just the boys and girls who had a great time. Richard, a Beaver Scout leader from Surrey, said: “We just wish it was longer, there are so many activities for the Beavers and Rainbows to do.”
