WI logoDavid Rose the Guildford local historian and journalist is deservedly very popular with WIs.

Having recently enthused Fairlands WI with one of his talks, David was the speaker at East Horsley WI’s February meeting.

Members very much enjoyed his enthusiastic and knowledgeable presentation on “Guildford’s Lost Shops”.

His illustrations included many images from the archive collection of the Guildford Institute.

His talk evoked nostalgia for the great variety of small interesting shops owned by local tradesmen. These shops have largely disappeared from Guildford High Street today replaced by cafes, phone shops and fashion stores. But thankfully the High Street is still recognisable  today with its iconic clock, granite setts and interesting mix of architectural styles.

Our next meeting on Wednesday, March 16, features “An Introduction to Watercolours” by Janet Gale.

Come and join us. New members and visitors are always made very welcome.

We meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 8pm in East Horsley Village Hall.

There are activities and outings to suit all tastes. For more details please ring 01483 285145.
