From Worplesdon WI

WI logoBombay Sapphire Gin distillery at Laverstoke Mill, on the scenic banks of the River Test, was the venue for Worplesdon Women’s Institute’s annual outing in July.

Members enjoyed an interesting interactive tour of the distillery giving an insight into the delicate balance of botanicals, which are grown on site in the state of the art glasshouses, that gives it its distinctive flavour.

They also enjoyed an al-fresco lunch and free sample at this historic location.

In the afternoon we visited Whitchurch Silk Mill also on the River Test where silk has been woven for over 200 years seeing the original working looms in action weaving spectacularly coloured silks.

Other outings enjoyed this season include a visit to Watts Gallery in April and local walk to see bluebells and cowslips at Sheepleas, the beacon lighting at St Mary’s Church to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday on April 21 and the Shakespeare Walk along the South Bank in London April 23. An afternoon at Normandy Therapy Garden and visits to several local gardens open to the public was enjoyed in June.

Our next meeting will be our summer garden party to be held locally and the September meeting will return to our regular venue of Worplesdon Memorial Hall.

Worplesdon WI is actively seeking new members, so if you enjoy these interests and would like to make new friends, we meet at 2.30pm on the first Wednesday in the month at Worplesdon Memorial Hall, Perry Hill, Guildford.

Please contact jennie.antliff@gmail.com and you will be very welcome to join our next meeting.
