Join local historian and writer David Rose and Guildford Dragon NEWS editor Martin Giles on a free guided walk around Stoughton, Guildford, this Saturday, September 8.

Looking up Barrack Road in the early 1900s. David Rose Collection.

Starts at 2pm, finishes about 3.30pm.

Meet on the green at Cardwells Keep, off Stoughton Road, Guildford GU2 9PD.

Stoughton grew following the opening of the barracks in 1876. It was once the home of the Queen’s Regiment and was a hive of activity during both world wars.

Hear about the military history of the barracks and see existing buildings now converted into homes.

The walk continues around the area with David and Martin giving lots more history facts and interesting stories of the people and places en route returning back to Cardwells Keep.

St Martha’s View, Stoughton Road. David Rose Collection.

The walk is part of Guildford Walkfest 2018

It is also a prelude to the major free community event Stoughton at the end of the Great War taking place at Cardwells Keep the following Saturday, September 15. See advertisement on this website for details.
