Guildford’s MP, Anne Milton, is getting on her bike! She is not out looking for a new job but wants to join hundreds of others who have decided that two wheels can sometimes be better than four.

Ready to sally forth. Anne has not cycled since her youth. Later she sent a message to say how much she had enjoyed her ride home.

On collecting her new cycle she said: “I am thrilled with my new bike from Pedal Pushers, fantastic service with a big smile! The cost and the queues for car parking and the unpredictability of Guildford traffic has finally got me back on two wheels. It will help me keep fit too.

“I feel ten-years-old again with my new bike!”

Ms Milton is working out her route to the station so she can cycle as part of her commute to Westminster. Now she will be able to see the joys, and sometimes the frustrations, of cycling in our town, first hand.

It was also noted that she was eyeing up a pannier bag which, crucially, had to be big enough to take her handbag. But she would not say if, when working a a government whip, she follows in the Mrs Thatcher tradition of hand-bagging any recalcitrant Conservative MPs.
