Another Look At Guildford’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Years With David Rose And Friends At The Keep Pub, Monday, July 2

Fans of Guildford’s music scene in the 1960s and 70s are in for a treat with a look back at those times with an illustrated talk and some live music at the Keep pub on Monday evening, July 2.

Local historian David Rose will be giving part two of his presentation Guildford and its rock ‘n’ roll years, following on from part one last year, that saw a packed Keep pub.

This time the focus will be on the latter part of the 1960s and on into the 1970s.

Camel.

He will be joined by seasoned musicians Mick Douglas, Johnny Kelly and Stuart Refold. During the talk they will add some of their memories and stories, and will round off the evening playing a few songs.

The event has been organised by Ben Darnton of Ben’s Collectors Records and his Facebook group page Guildford Past & Present, in conjunction with the pub. Ben is also likely to play some percussion with the lads in the loose scratch band on the night!

The Stormsville Shakers later changed their name to Circus.

This time, bands featured will include Phillip Goodhand-Tait and the Stormsville Shakers when they changed their name to Circus, the Switch, Camel, Tony Backhurst and his band House, and even David Rose’s first band at the end of the 1970s – Circular Tours.

Rare and previously unseen photos will be featured, along with memories of the local venues, including the free festivals that took place at the University of Surrey.

The evening starts at 7.30pm Free to attend, just put a few coins in the glass that will be passed around during the evening as an appreciation of what you’ll see and hear.
