The latest Prince’s Trust Team from Guildford held their final presentation at Guildford YMCA.

The 12-week self-development course takes young people who have nothing to do and little hope for the future and turns them around. Personal and team challenges stretch the young people who, despite their doubts and reservations, find they can achieve much more than they thought possible. They form strong friendships as they work together to achieve tasks and help develop each other as well as themselves.

During the presentation a number of the young people said their greatest achievement from the course was making new friends and gaining more confidence.

James Ede, 17, said: “Being on the Prince’s Trust Team really helped me out in life; the course gave me direction and structure that I’d lost since I left school. I met some great life friends and got a voluntary placement at the YMCA in Guildford off the back of my work experience.”

Peter Higgs, a successful local self-employed businessman, presented the young people with the various certificates they gained during the course. Peter was able to start his company with support from a Prince’s Trust business advisor and told the audience something of his story. He acknowledged that things don’t come easily and gave the team some honest advice. He congratulated the young people on all they have achieved but added: “When life is hard, it will get harder before it gets better, so don’t give up.”
