In an attempted robbery in Ash a man tried to grab a woman’s handbag. Detectives are appealing for witnesses.

The incident happened when the 46-year-old victim was walking down an alleyway between Fairview Road and Miles Road on Wednesday evening (November 27).

The pedestrian was using the cut through sometime between 11.40pm and midnight when she was approached by a man who brushed against her and tried to pull her bag from her. The woman pushed the would-be thief away and in doing so lost her balance, falling to the ground. She suffered minor injuries as a result.

The suspect ran off in the direction of Fairview Road.

The offender is described as a white man, aged between 18-years-old and early twenties, 5ft 8” tall and of medium build. He had light coloured eyes, a pointy nose and was clean shaven with a spotty face. He was wearing a light coloured hoody with the hood up, dark trousers and white trainers.

Detective Constable Dave Pellatt investigating said: “This was a frightening experience for a lone woman and I would urge anyone who may recognise the man from this description to contact officers as soon as possible. Members of the public should be able to go about their business in their own neighbourhood without fear of such a crime.

“I would like to take this opportunity to advice the community to take personal safety measures when they are out and about, particularly at night. People should remain vigilant to their own security by walking along well lit routes, avoiding alleyways or short cuts, ensuring they are alert and not wearing personal headphones or carrying expensive items.”
