Guildford YMCA’s Surrey 3 Peaks Challenge continued with a team from Barclays stepping out to raise funds for the new Plantation.
The youth work arm of the YMCA will move into a new home within the Bridge Street hostel, and the push is on to raise the rest of the money required. To date more than £342,000 has been donated, pledged or raised through fundraising activities, and Barclays Corporate was pleased to hand over a cheque for a further £1,800.
The six members of the Barclays 3 Peaks team chose to undertake the challenge on Saturday, June 8 – a fine, warm day with near perfect conditions. Melanie Lewis, Barclays’ relationship director, said: “We were delighted to support one of our clients and assist with the new Plantation project.”
The team raised £900 between them – no mean feat in itself – and this was match funded by Barclays. Pete Brayne, CEO of Guildford YMCA went along to receive the cheque in Barclays’ new offices in Ranger House, Guildford and said: “We were particularly pleased when our bankers expressed interest in fundraising for us! We’ve enjoyed a long relationship with them and this takes us to another level. On behalf of the young people we work with, thank you Barclays!”
Relocating Plantation to Bridge Street will provide a larger space with more flexibility to accommodate projects for young people who are looking for direction and purpose in life. Plantation youth workers work elsewhere in the county too, spreading the ‘Plantation effect’.
