Best Charity Golf Day Yet For YMCA

Following a spell of unsettled weather, Monday, June 18, dawned cool and dry – a perfect day for Guildford YMCA’s Charity Golf Day.

The winning ‘Clothes & Pose’ shot featuring Liz Leah of RHW Solicitors LLP with guests.

Sixteen teams representing 11 organisations gathered at Guildford Golf Club for a hearty breakfast and a brief presentation on the YMCA’s work with young people before heading out to the tees.

The course was in excellent condition and the only complaints were from some golfers about the state of their game.  Competitions around the course included ‘Clothes & Pose’ which produced some wonderful photo opportunities.

Louise Musgrave of Purely Events ensured the day ran smoothly. And former Guildford Golf Club captain Paul Donaghy made an excellent MC, exerting his considerable powers of persuasion to extract ever higher bids during the auctions.  The Notes, two talented ACM students Penny Nicholls and Rob Webster, provided ambient music later in the day while the golfers relaxed over a delicious dinner. They were then well entertained by juggler Sam Veale with a display of his remarkable skills.

There was a spectacular array of auction, silent auction and raffle prizes on offer and generous people in the room. This resulted in achieving the best golf day fundraising result to date – more than £5,000. This will be used to support the YMCA’s work with disadvantaged and vulnerable young people, helping them build a better future.

YMCA CEO Pete Brayne said: “Every year we hope for a bigger and better golf day and every year we seem to achieve it. We are immensely grateful to all those who gave their time to support the day, or have donated prizes. We know our teams of golfers have had a great day but we thank them too for taking time out of their busy schedules to be here. Without them we wouldn’t have raised so much for our work – they have been remarkably generous. On behalf of the young people we work with, thank you!”

The all important prize giving rounded off the evening. Congratulations to Alan Perrett’s team from Waverley Construction Ltd who won the RHW trophy this year. And next year’s date is in the dairy – Monday, June 17, 2013.  For more about the day visit www.lifechangefund.org.uk/golf_day.htm
