The Guildford Institute on Ward Street is a local charity committed to providing educational and cultural activities in a social atmosphere. Its autumn 2013 programme is out now which offers an interesting and eclectic range of talks, trips, courses and activities.
Whether you want to attend a one-hour talk on a Wednesday afternoon or a 10-week course on subjects such as art history, creative writing, or learning a language – the institute aims to provide something for everyone who is looking to expand their knowledge base in a relaxed and social setting.
Local historian and Guildford Dragon NEWS writer David Rose will be giving another four of his popular lectures focusing on Guildford’s more recent history. They will include: A Picture Postcard Tour of Local Villages, More Lost Shops, Breweries and Pubs, and Local Industries. Each session will include an illustrated talk, followed by a look at related items in his collection and the institute’s, plus time for discussion.
The library and vegetarian restaurant will both reopen in early September while the institute is open all summer to take programme and room hire bookings.
