Butter and Cream Cakes, the popular North Street Market stall, celebrated an important birthday on Wednesday (October 2) with cake and bubbles.
A year ago Suke Wibaut opened her high street bakery and coffee shop in Milford. From here she produces the cakes for the market and bespoke celebration cakes for customers as diverse as the University of Surrey, The Tea Terrace and private individuals.
Suke said: “It’s going really, really well. Having the shop has seen my turnover double. My girls are lovely and I’m now employing two full time and two part time staff.”
The baker’s main aim over the last year was to promote her custom-made birthday and anniversary cakes. This has been easily achieved resulting in a doubling of the workforce.
A regular at the market for the last four years, Butter and Cream originally searched for commercial premises to turn into a bakery. However, Suke found an empty unit in a village close to her home and had the idea to use the open frontage as a small cafe and shop.
Customers include people working locally and existing customers picking up previously ordered batches of cakes. Suke explained people couldn’t collect orders from the market stall because they were limited to Friday and Saturday: “That’s why it’s great to have a base because now they can.”

Butter & Creams cupcakes are the best in the world. I know I’ve tried a lot! Not only that all the ladies are so friendly and will make custom made brilliant cakes for any occasion too. Thank you for your delicious baking & here’s to many more years!

These cupcakes are fantastic.
Thankfully they can be easily cut into four because my husband and two children can never agree on which are our favourites. So we buy a selection including red velvet, salted caramel, cappuccino carrot and banana then take a slice each.
Yummm… and Happy Birthday ladies x
