Castle Green Bowlers Overcome Strong Opposition For An Excellent Win

On a cloudy and breezy afternoon on Saturday August 17, Castle Green Bowling Club (CGBC) had an excellent win by 53-39 against a visiting team, from Croydon, one of the strongest Surrey clubs.

Though we had to start in the rain, dressed like a lot of white gnomes in full hooded rain gear, the rain soon cleared away leaving grey overcast conditions. Never mind.

The company was excellent – and a good time was had by all.

The two teams dined midway through the game on a splendid salad prepared by Shirley West and Viv Smith, which went down very well.

The big winners, by 28-13, were the team of Rob Williams  (skip) with Hazel Tappenden and Colin Summerhayes; next, with a score of 17-11, came the team of Jill Bird (skip) with Julie Hinde and Lynn  Smith; finally our losing team comprised Brian West (skip) with Peter Smith and Mary Reeves, with a score of 8-15. Overall, an excellent team performance.
