The beautiful setting of Guildford Castle Gardens was a fine and fitting place for the Castle Green Bowling Club to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee last Friday (1 Jun) with nearly 150 members and guests.
The bowling green and clubhouse had been bedecked with union flags and bunting whilst the ladies of the club had prepared a fine spread of refreshments. A tea-towel advised attendees to ‘Keep Calm and Eat Cupcakes’!
In attendance were the Mayor, Cllr Jenny Jordan, who opened the event and her escort, Cllr Jenny Powell, as well as Guildford’s Hon. Remembrancer, Matthew Alexander and the Town Crier David Peters.
Those present were able to try try their hand at bowling or listen to music at the bandstand.
Organiser Shirley West said: “I am very patriotic and it was brilliant to celebrate our Queen’s wonderful reign with so many of my friends, club-mates and guests. The castle gardens are always a picture, of course, and we were honoured to have the Mayor along to open the event for us.
“I must also thank Cllr Jenny Powell and her Guildford in Bloom Committee as well as the whole Parks and Gardens Department of the council. We simply could not have done this properly without them.”
