The Surrey Hills Chamber Choir has won three cups at this year’s Cheltenham Music Festival.
The day started by winning the Sacred Class with an outstanding grade of 91. After lunch the choir achieved a second place in the folk song class with another outstanding grade of 90, losing by one point to The Chanterelles.
The event on May 18 culminated with the mixed voice class in the evening, where the choir was not only thrilled to receive another first place and an outstanding grade of 91, but was also awarded the gold cup for the most memorable performance.
The choir is now starting to learn new repertoire and would love to hear from any basses who would be interested in joining.
The choir rehearses on Wednesdays, 7.30pm to 10pm at Guildford United Reformed Church, Portsmouth Road GU2 4BS. Call Debbie Walton on 01483 276281 or email Debbie@surreyhills-choirs.co.uk to go along a taster session.
The Surrey Hills Choir’s summer family concert takes place on Saturday, July 13 at 6pm at Cranleigh Village Hall.
The concert features the Surrey Hills Singers (mums’ choir), Young Voices and Training Choir and promises to be a fantastic evening with a programme suitable for all generations of the family.
The choirs will perform a mix of styles and favourites including, Hail Holy Queen from Sister Act, Ed Sheeran’s Perfect, It’s A Hard Knock Life from Annie, a medley from Jungle Book, and songs from The Greatest Showman, plus many other well-loved songs.
The choirs will sing from memory so they can engage directly with the audience and some songs are choreographed to add even more entertainment value!
Tickets are £10 for adults and £3 for children under 16 and are available on the door, or contacting Debbie at the same details as above.
Refreshments are included in the ticket price and are held after the concert with the performers.
