When it comes to personal health and wellbeing, the Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital understands those ‘minor’ health concerns that you keep meaning to get looked at may not always be at the forefront of your mind.
However, these concerns may not always be as small or unimportant as you think and delaying important health issues can have longer term implications.
Living life in ill health can lead to both physical and mental long term effects. With recent studies showing that the average life expectancy is on the increase and we are now living up to three and a half years longer than we did 10 years ago, we will have to spend more time suffering.
So what does this all mean?
Well if we delay seeking help for ill health and have long standing health issues, teamed with living longer, we will spend longer in pain/discomfort affecting our everyday lives or living with health conditions that could have been prevented.
Taking a more active interest in individual health and health care has many benefits.
These include knowing the right place to visit based on your health concern (for example A&E for severe bleeding, your doctor for illness/injury that is not going away, pharmacy or a cough) and having key knowledge of how lifestyle changes can help prevent chronic conditions such as Type 2 diabetes.
These chronic conditions are becoming much more common among us, with the number of diabetic individuals expected to rise from 3.9 million in 2017 to 4.9 million in 2035.
In a desperate attempt to reduce fatalities and ill health caused by these conditions, the NHS and healthcare providers have prioritised prevention in 2019. Health and healthcare proactivity in these cases can have a huge effect on the quality of care we receive, reduce the impact of these conditions and even prevent the conditions entirely.
We at Nuffield Health Guildford Hospital believe that good health is not just about healthcare alone. It is about what you do to stay healthier for longer.
As we’re living longer, our approach towards our general health needs to be a bigger priority. This starts with actively seeking answers to your health related questions.
A brilliant way to find expert advice on a variety of health topics such as cataract surgery, knee pain, hip replacements, gynaecology and cardiovascular disease is to attend our free open events.
Patient open events give you the chance to find out more information regarding your health concerns and have your questions answered by an expert consultant directly.
So, don’t wait until it’s too late to take matters of your health into your own hands. Speak to the experts, visit the right places, ask questions and attend patient events – it may be more important than you think.
To find out more information or to book onto one of our many events, give us a call on 0300 131 1401 or visit our website.
