Join in and cheer on the Olympic Torchbearers next week by watching anywhere along the route through Shere and Guildford on Friday, July 20.

The Olympic Flame will be carried along Gomshall Lane and Upper Street in Shere at approximately 5pm.

The Olympic Torch Relay Convoy will arrive in Guildford by the entrance to the roundabout  near Guildford Cathedral at approximately 6.15pm. Torchbearers will then carry the Olympic Flame along The Chase, Madrid Road, Guildford Park Road, Farnham Road, Bridge Street, Millbrook, High Street and London Road to Stoke Park.

Cllr Jen Powell, lead councillor for culture and leisure, at Guildford Borough Council, said: “It’s going to be an exciting day and a fantastic opportunity for local people to watch this historic event on their doorstep.

“However, it will be busy, so please plan ahead. Crowds are likely to gather early at each location and Guildford High Street is expected to get particularly busy so please consider watching from another spot.”

Official marshals will be positioned along the route to help make sure that everything runs smoothly and safely. A number of vehicles, including those of  theLondon 2012 Olympic Games sponsors, will pass before the Olympic Flame, and the best view will be to the left of the torchbearer.

The Olympic Flame will finish its journey at the council’s celebrating the London 2012 Torch Relay event at Stoke Park. All tickets have gone, so please do not travel to the event as you will not be able to see anything as the area will be fenced off.
