Children in infant and primary schools across the county have named some of Surrey’s new fleet of gritters which will help keep frosty roads safe.
The new vehicles operate more efficiently, with state-of-the art technology and produce lower amounts of carbon emissions.
More than 200 schools were invited to name the gritters and now the newly christened fleet is at work around the county delivering the winter service.
The winning entries are:
Matt Furniss (Con, Shalford), cabinet member for Highways, said: “Our gritting service keeps Surrey moving safely over the winter. We have more than 12,500 tonnes of salt stockpiled to treat primary routes when temperatures plummet.
“I’m delighted our children have been involved in naming the fleet and I’m very impressed with their clever and amusing entries.”
