It looks like its an early Christmas on the Woking Road in Bellfields. Resident Frances Treagus has given her front garden her annual Christmas makeover and she says she does it for the children.

“I get pleasure out of it but it’s really for the young ones going to school. You should see the smiles on their faces.” said Frances. “I had Christmas cards last year from children thanking me.”

Neighbour Celia White said it was “wonderful” and really brightened up the street. “You should see her decorations indoors, there’s hardly any space left in the rooms.”

Frances said she had been doing it for four years and has had a good reception from neighbours as well as passers-by.

Last year, she collected £25 for the homeless. “We will be collecting for the Salvation Army this year and hopefully we will collect more.”

Frances said she starts to plan the decorating about August. “I start it early otherwise it wouldn’t get done in time.”

She is working on making a sleigh out of a coach-built pram with the wheels taken off. “Father Christmas has to have a sleigh” she said with a chuckle.

“It takes a long time to get it all ready”. Even though it is nearly complete, she leaves the Christmas lights to her husband. “The lighting is Pete’s department. We might light it up on the last day of November.”

It isn’t without problems she said. “The dog ate the snow yesterday.”
