Book a tour of The Spike in Warren Road, Guildford this Christmas Day and get a feel of what life was like in a Victorian workhouse at Christmas time!
It is the preserved former casual ward of the Guildford Union Workhouse, where vagrants and tramps could once get a bed for the night, sleeping in locked cells.
Pre-booked tours will start at 10am and 10.30am and will last just over an hour. Post-tour refreshments of hot chocolate, mulled wine, mince pies and biscuits will be provided.
The Spike’s general manager John Redpath and local historian and writer David Rose will be leading the tours!
Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
Tickets cost £12 for adults and £8 for children and are available to buy from the Tourist Information Centre at 155 High Street. or by phoning on 01483 444333, or from the Charlotteville Jubilee Trust on 01483 598420.
The Spike can be a very cold place in the winter months, so dress warm!
