Community Angels, the Guildford-based project that supports adults facing loneliness, is bidding for a cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Tesco has teamed up with community charity Groundwork to award grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 to community projects, raised from carrier bag sales in its stores.

Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the award and shoppers are being invited to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

Community Angels, run by the Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy, is one of the groups on the shortlist in the Guildford area.

Its volunteer Community Angels befriend adults experiencing loneliness and isolation by listening, providing companionship, and helping them to reconnect with their local community.

For more details click on the Community Angels; website, or phone 07825 799309.

Voting is open throughout March and April in the following local Tesco stores:

Tesco Superstore, Ashenden Road, Guildford; Tesco Express, Bridge Street, Guildford; and Tesco Express, Milford.

Customers cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop. Please ask for a token if you’re not given one!
