Conservative Association Chair Is Not Supporting Boris

The letter published in today’s Sunday Telegraph.

The chairman of Guildford Conservative Association decided not to add his signature to a letter published in today’s Sunday Telegraph in support of Boris Johnson.

The letter, signed by 68 Conservative Association chairmen, urges Conservative party members to vote for Mr Johnson and reflects the view of former councillor Christian Holliday, a Conservative Party member who in a letter to The Dragon, Why I Voted for Boris, wrote: “After three years of dithering it is essential we now move forward and implement the 2016 referendum result to leave the EU. The consequences of not doing so will be catastrophic, for our trust in politics and the Conservative Party in particular.”

But GCA chairman Bob Hughes told The Dragon: “I can definitely confirm I didn’t sign this.

“Boris has many qualities but I am firmly supporting Jeremy Hunt. Guildford Conservatives are, as usual, mixed between all views.”

Jeremy Hunt is the MP for Guildford’s neighbouring constituency South West Surrey.

Guildford’s MP, Anne Milton, originally supported Michael Gove (MP for Surrey Heath, another neighbouring constituency) but, following the reduction to two candidates, is now reported to have spoken publicly of her support for Jeremy Hunt.

On Friday (July 12) it was reported that only 50% of the votes in the Tory’s leadership postal ballot had been cast, a return late slower than some had expected. The winner will be announced on Monday, July 22.

Good leadership Mr Hughes. At least Jeremy Hunt answers questions.
