The community wellbeing team at Guildford Borough Council will be distributing more than 400 presents to help families with the cost of Christmas this year.

And this is with help from pupils at Guildford High School who have collected gifts for 120 families.

All ready with presents to help families with the cost of Christmas.

The wellbeing team has been working with the Guildford branch of Christians Against Poverty and home school link workers to identify families who need help, as well as families who have had help from the council’s Household Support Fund.

This year the team has set up collection points in key local areas. This allows families to collect their allocated gifts in time for Christmas Day.

Guildford Borough Council’s lead councillor for community, Cllr Carla Morson, explained: “We stand by our community when they need it most. But we don’t do it alone. Our partnership with local schools to make initiatives like this happen is inspiring. We’re thankful that they and many residents care about those who need help, just like we do.

“Despite starting during the pandemic, the Household Support Fund remains a vital support. For many facing financial strain, this help brings relief during the costly Christmas season.

“Alongside other local support services, we see families dealing with tough times every day. This makes the work we do in the community even more important.

“Our support can make a big difference for these families. Our team works hard to make sure anyone who needs help gets it.

“We know that it’s not only Christmas when our communities need our care and support. Our Community Wellbeing team operates year-round, offering vital services and support. Whether through The Hive commumnity centre or online, we’re here for our residents whenever they need us.”
