Every Christmas, people love seeing homes festooned with twinkling fairy lights and sparkling Santas on shining sleds, marvelling at the creativity of each owner.

This year, the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care local charity is hunting for houses to join its Christmas lights display. From glittering windows, to multi-coloured porches and Santas climbing down the chimney, we all know someone who creates an amazing festive house scene every festive season.

The charity wants to join together all of these magical spectacles by creating a Christmas lights tour across their catchment area of West Surrey and North-east Hampshire. They are inviting anyone who would like to be involved in decorating their house to help hospice care to get in touch.

Each display house would be featured on a map of the area, along with all the others, inviting people to come and see the very best local Christmas lights this year, and show their appreciation by making a donation to support Phyllis Tuckwell’s work.

“With the pandemic affecting the lives of all of us this year, we’d like to bring a bit more festive joy this Christmas,” said Charli Quay-Barnham, the charity’s community fundraising manager.

“And by joining our Christmas lights display, you can raise money to help fund the vital care we provide to local patients and their families, as well as exciting wonder and pleasure in those who come to see your wonderful festive creations.”

Despite the pandemic, Phyllis Tuckwell has continued to provide supportive and end-of-life care for local patients and families living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer. But the pandemic has forced them to cancel many fundraising events, causing a severe impact on income.

A charity spokesperson said: “Why not go crazy for Christmas this year and decorate your home to help raise money for Phyllis Tuckwell?”
