David Rose’s Local History Talk On Stoughton and Walk Focusing on Bellfields – Both This Weekend

Join local historian and Guildford Dragon NEWS writer David Rose at one or even both events he is presenting this weekend (September 23 and 24).

Stoughton Wesleyan Church in the early 1900s. It is now Stoughton Methodist Church where David Rose will be giving his illustrated history talk on Stoughton and its people on Saturday evening, September 23.

On Saturday evening he is giving an illustrated history talk about Stoughton and its people. It is taking place at Stoughton Methodist Church in Stoughton Road and all are welcome.

There will be a jacket potato and filling meal at 7pm, followed by the talk at 8pm. Entry is £5. If you wish to enjoy the meal beforehand, please call Mary Smith on 01483 570730 to confirm. Alternatively, arrive just before 8pm for the talk.

On Sunday afternoon David is leading a circular guided walk from Bellfields Green, through what was once the site of Stoke Hill House, across Stringers Common, around Brittens Pond and back again.

Stoke Hill House that stood at the top of Bellfields Green. David Rose’s free guided walk on Sunday, September 24, will include details of the house and the Paynter family who lived there.

The walk is free and part of the Guildford Walkfest 2017. More details here on the Guildford Walkfest website and then scroll down the page.

Meet on the green at Hazel Avenue by the ‘Moggy Pond’ and opposite St Peter’s Church. The walk sets off at 2pm and lasts for about two hours.
