The decorations are sparkling, hot Arnaud Christmas sandwiches are on the menu and there’s a giant, magical lamp glittering at the theatre entrance – panto season has arrived in Guildford!
This year’s traditional family pantomime Aladdin ‘opened sesame’ on Friday last week and local MP Anne Milton visited the cast and crew at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre to wish them all the best for their festive run.
Treading the boards and admiring the costumes and set, Anne expalined why she views the pantomime as a special event and a must-see in the theatre calendar. She said: “I always love the Yvonne Arnaud pantomimes; it’s a great occasion for all the family and has become an important part of our Christmas tradition.
“There is no doubt that it is the best pantomime in the South East. If you haven’t been to an Yvonne Arnaud production then book now! It’s a panto with something for everyone. The Yvonne Arnaud is intimate and friendly, has a great atmosphere, there’s plenty of audience participation and you will have a fantastic time.
“Don’t miss it, get your tickets now and be prepared for a wonderful time!”
This year’s pantomime stars television favourite Susie Blake as the magical Genie alongside Kit Hesketh-Harvey’s evil Abanazar. Peter Gordon shows regal flair as the Emperor of China, there’s a stunning new wardrobe for Royce Mills as Widow Twankey, Emma Thornett enchants in the title role, Joe Allen is the wonderful Wishee Washee, Jamie Brook patrols the streets of Peking as PC Pongo and Lucy Hope-Borne is the perfect Princess Jasmine.
Aladdin runs until Sunday, January 13. You can book yours by calling the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre box office on (-01483 440000, or click here to visit the website.
