Ben Darnton is a well known Guildford character whose record shop has become an established part of the Guildford Scene. The shop stocks a huge range of vinyl recordings transporting customers back to halcyon youthful days.
But as well as providing entertaining chat to his customers Ben has insightful views on the retail sector in Guildford worth listening to whether you are involved in the retail sector, a councillor trying to create the right setting for prosperous business or simply a customer who wants to enjoy Guildford street life including the shopping experience.
Please view the interview conducted by our Shop Front editor Hugh Coakley, it covers a wide range of related topics. The film was made and edited by Chris Jewers.

Businessman Ben does so much to promote the town of Guildford he knows how important it is for residents and visitors.
Good to see this interview. Ben is right people want to use the town for a range of reasons. Independent buisinesses make Guildford something special. Let’s make sure we support our historic town and all our wide range of businesses within it.

Ben Darnton is also amazing for his efforts in the wider community. An administrator for the Guildford Town Past and Present Facebook site he has helped us to draw together so much information about our wonderful town.
A great summary of what we need to do to make Guilford even better. Transport in Guildford needs a shakeup and more enhancement of our tourist attractions would also help.

Excellent interview with Ben, he does a great job supporting Guildford and makes some really good points. I agree that the independents are so important and make people go to Guildford. If I want to go to a chain store I will tend to go to London (as they are bigger and more selection) it is the independents that encourage me into Guildford.
