Elderly Couple Forced to Give Bank Card PIN Numbers During Aggravated Burglary

An elderly couple, in their eighties, were tied up and forced to give their bank card PIN numbers to burglars who had entered their Guildford home last night (February 10). The incident, according to a police press release, occurred “in the vicinity of Wodeland Avenue”.

Two men, whose faces were covered, forced their way into the home around 7.15pm.

In addition to the bank cards, the men made off with a quantity of cash and some jewellery.

Before they left they tore out a page from an address book and told the couple that once they had what they wanted, they would contact a neighbour to release them.

The couple did not suffer any injuries but were left extremely shaken as a result of their ordeal.

One of the burglars is described as white, around 6ft tall, of a stocky build, in his 30s wearing a dark woollen hat and a dark scarf pulled over his face, a dark padded coat, gloves and faded jeans which were turned up.

The only description of the second man is that he was slimmer than the first man.

It is believed that they made their getaway along Farnham Road, across the bridge and towards Woodbridge Road and the town centre.

Police believe the suspects parked their vehicle on Woodbridge Road and walked to the forecourt of the Nisa BP garage to use the ATM.

We are appealing for any motorists who were on that route (see map attached screenshot) between 7.20 and 7.45pm who may have dashcam footage to come forward as a matter of urgency.

Detective Constable Richard Cooper, who is investigating the incident, said: “This may seem like a long shot but we are looking at a very specific time frame for motorists on Woodbridge Road during this time.”

He continued: “This was an extremely harrowing ordeal for the couple who are both in their 80s. Although they were not injured, they are really distressed and shaken up. This is an extremely unusual offence to have occurred in this area but I would like to reassure the public that we are doing everything possible to identify the suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.”

DC Cooper added: “If anyone saw anything in the area around the time of the incident, or was on the route described above or who has any other information, we would like to hear from you.

“You might have a vital piece of information which could help us to progress our investigation.”
