Enjoy Some Jazz This Summer…

Jazz fans have two upcoming local gigs that are sure to be of interest…

The Electric Theatre Summer Jazz Showcase, take place on Sunday, July 14. It promises to be an exciting whole afternoon of jazz as up and coming younger musicians showcase their talents.

Performers include 18-year-old trombonist Owen Danson, a Royal Academy of Music student who plays with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and Royal Welsh School of Music trumpeter Charlotte Keeffe. Plus Cranleigh Youth Jazz Ensemble, the Jazz Lions, and selected students from Royal Holloway, the Junior Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music.

A barbecue and bar will be available, so why not go along to relax on the banks of the River Wey to the finest of local jazz.

Vasilis Xenopoulos.

Vasilis Xenopoulos, a fiery tenor saxophonist widely admired for his explosive playing, performs at the Freeholders pub in St John’s Street, Farncombe, on Wednesday, July 17, with guitarist Nigel Price, whose flowing bebop lines and deep blues style made him 2010 Parliamentary Jazz Award winner.  

They are joined by highly talented drummer and consummate musician Rod Youngs.
