A flood alert has been issued for the Upper River Wey. River levels are rising as a result of a period of sustained rain today (January 4) which is continuing into the evening.

As well as Guildford and Peasmarsh, the flood alert area includes: Alton, Farnham, Bordon, Frensham, Tilford, and Godalming.  But property flooding is not currently expected.

According to the Gov.UK website the relevant agencies are closely monitoring the situation and advise: “Please remain safe and aware of your local surroundings. Avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and refer to the ‘River and Sea levels in England’ webpage for current river levels.

“This message will be updated tomorrow morning, 5 January 2024, or as the situation changes.”
