Tricolour at St Nics notice

The French Tricolore flying over St Nicolas Church today as a mark of respect for those killed in the Paris massacres on Friday.

The French Tricolore flew over a Guildford church today (November 16) as a mark of respect for those who suffered in the terrorist massacres in Paris on Friday (November 13).

The church was St Nicolas, at the bottom of the High Street. Fr Andrew Norman, the rector, said: “A local church can be a focal point for everyone in a crisis.

“It is good that our flag officer thought to fly the Tricolore from St Nicolas’ – a gesture in the heart of Guildford of our solidarity with the people of France – and of our hopes for peace.”

Local resident Eddie Ward of Lawn Road, who took the photograph said: “I was pleased to see the French flag flying in Guildford today. It seemed an appropriate and thoughtful gesture.

“I am sure that there are some French people who live in Guildford and I hope they understand that they are in our thoughts and have our support.”
