Local charity fund-raiser Shirley West, a well known celebrity in Guildford circles, was one of the lucky ones to have there photo taken with an Olympic Torch on Friday.
She said: “I was so lucky to have been asked to have my photo taken with the Olympic Torch. The photo was taken at the Holiday Inn where their was an Olympic Torch for all the staff to see and hold.
“The Holiday Inn is one of the sponsors for the games. It was a lovely looking thing and a wonderful boost for my charity the British Heart Foundation. I do hope it encourages everyone to remember to donate.”
Anne Milton MP sent Shirley a message of support saying: “How wonderful and much deserved.”
Shirley is on record as saying: “Heart disease is the biggest killer of women in the UK. We are currently raising for a particular piece of hospital equipment.”
She continued: “We are always busy. Over the last 3 years we have raised, in total, nearly £1 million. Recently we have provided five new heart monitors in the RSCH for the consultant cardiologist Dr Chua.”

Well done Shirley. While the rest of us talk, Shirley gets things done. So pleased to see the recognition.
