The nights are drawing in and, despite Guildford’s Indian summer, we must soon face the prospect of winter. But lighting up the dark is G Live with a wide variety of November shows. Beethoven, candlelight concerts, a first outing for a CBeebie show and more dates for a top selling comedian.
On Friday, November 14, Classics by Candlelight recreates the sumptuous settings in which Mozart, Vivaldi and Bach would have written.
Listen to recognisable masterpieces such as Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik, Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor and Vivaldi’s Summer from the Four Seasons Suite performed by the Mozart Festival Orchestra, in 18th-century costume in an evocative candle-lit style setting.
The Mozart Festival Orchestra will be joined by the sublime soprano Natasha Jouhl and soloist Crispian Steele-Perkins on trumpet. Conductor and violinist David Juritz will lead the evening’s music.
Comedian Jason Manford will be bringing the laughs to G Live on Wednesday, November 19.
Jason has had a busy time since he was last on the road. After winning Opera talent show Born To Shine (ITV1) Jason joined Alfie Boe on tour prior to a well-received run in the hit west-end musical Sweeney Todd. He enjoyed appearances on QI (BBC Two), Big Fat Quiz of the Year (Channel 4), and Comedy World Cup (Channel 4).
Jason said: “Some of you might think I’ve had a career change what with all the opera and musical theatre I’ve been doing lately. Not a chance, I’m excited to be getting back to what I really love the most – stand up!”
Children’s stage show producers Fiery Light bring a new full-length theatre adventure for children, Octonauts and the Deep Sea Volcano Adventure to G Live on Wednesday and Thursday, November 5 and 6. Based on the popular CBeebies’ TV show, Octonauts, this exciting new production is aimed at little ones with a sense of adventure.
In Octonauts and the Deep Sea Volcano Adventure the entire crew of the Octonauts, led by intrepid explorer Captain Barnacles, Lieutenant Kwazii and Medic Peso, embark on an exciting new underwater quest. The interactive show features music from BAFTA-award winning composer Mani Svavarsson and the Octonauts live on stage for the first time.
Fiery Light also produces the successful Peppa Pig stage shows.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra returns to G Live on Friday, November 7, as part of the Guildford International Orchestral Season to perform some of Beethoven’s finest works.
Opening with Beethoven’s stormy Coriolan Overture, Spanish virtuoso Joaquín Achúcarro will perform his youthful Piano Concerto No.2. The concert will conclude with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 ‘Pastoral’, recently voted seventh in Classic FM’s Ultimate Hall of Fame.
Leading the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be the young conductor Eduardo Portal who re-joins the orchestra for this special performance. He will give a free pre-concert talk which is open to ticket holders.
