Guildford Games 2016, a free event that put the focus on sport, health and wellbeing was well attended on Saturday, September 24.
A range of organisation were present offering have-a-go sporting activities or giving good advice on staying healthy.
It took place on Bannisters field, Egerton Road, and was hosted by Guildford Borough Council’s community wardens, with assistance from many local groups and organisations included the Joining In! project and its co-ordinator david Rose
Among those who took part there was Guildford Borough Council’s Playrangers, Surrey County Council’s Community Youth Work team, Messy Church at St Clare’s Church, the Park Barn & Westborough Community Association, and the Gurkha Sunrise Sports Club.
They also included Walking for Health, Guildford Junior Parkrun, British Heart Foundation, Spirit health club at Guildford’s Holiday Inn, Catalyst, FISH play scheme, Crossroads Care Surrey and Voluntary Action South West Surrey.
There was live music from the Paperwaits, Squeezebox, Rhythm of Life community choir and Hannah Dorman.
Added to this were displays of karate, punk rock yoga, zumba and tai chi, of which of the latter three anyone could join in with, and they did!
The community warden team of Guildford Borough Council is pleased and proud of the Guildford Games event it organised. The team said: “It was a great success and we are very grateful to our community groups and partner agencies for their support and commitment.
“It was definitely hard work but worth it! Under the council’s initiative of Project Aspire, the warden team want to reinforce to our local communities that that ‘Every Person Matters’. Guildford Games did just that and promoted a community focus on health and wellbeing.
“We are so pleased with the positive feedback we have received and the fact that many local people came along to the event and saw what is available within the community to help them feel happier and healthier.”
