Gritters On the Roads for the First Time This Winter

One of Surrey County Council’s gritting vehicles fleet.

With temperatures due to plummet, the county council’s fleet of gritting lorries are set to head out on Surrey’s roads tonight (November 3) for the first time since last winter.

The council’s network of weather stations and road temperature sensors along with the weather forecast predict that the road surface temperature will drop below 0°C in some part of the county overnight. The cold weather means there is a risk of ice or frost forming on the council’s roads.

The fleet of more than 30 gritting vehicles will be heading out from 7pm after filling up from the council’s stockpile of salt in order to treat the roads to help stop ice forming.
