Students from the (GSA) Guildford School of Acting are hoping to raise money for the Royal Surrey Charity by performing songs from famous West End musicals.
The Royal Surrey Charity is the official charity which supports the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and community hospitals in Cranleigh, Milford and Haslemere.
Godalming Rotary Club’s president, Anne Gray, who has organised the event said, “Royal Surrey Charity is raising money for a brand new Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre that will make a real difference to the people of Surrey. One in two of us will experience cancer at some point in our lives, we all know someone who has been affected.”
Building work for the centre based at the Royal Surrey recently started and will make available state-of-the-art equipment and technology to the three million people the hospital already supports as well as enabling 7,000 more patients to be treated each year.
Chief Executive of Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, Louise Stead said, “We are very excited to have started work on our new Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre which will become one of Europe’s leading surgical centres.”
Royal Surrey Charity’s Cancer & Surgical Innovation Campaign will help fund the best up-to-date equipment and technology, which will help to reduce waiting times and deliver less invasive surgery through the use of robotic surgery.
“This event will be a truly brilliant show for a worthy cause.”
A Friends of Royal Surrey Charity spokesperson added, “We are thrilled to have so much public support. It is events like these that bring smiles to our faces when the community comes together in support of our mission, it’s just great.”
Guildford School of Acting’s Musical Director, Peter Roberts, spoke of what audiences can expect to see on the night. He said: “The GSA Singers is made up of 24 performers who are currently studying Musical Theatre at the Guildford School of Acting. The show is fully choreographed with an eclectic mix of musical theatre favourites, pop, jazz and opera. We’re delighted to be returning to the Borough Hall to support the Rotary Club once again.”
The show will take place on February 24 at the Godalming Borough Hall.
Tickets are available online here at or from Record Corner, Pound Lane, Godalming, GU71BX.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Royal Surrey Charity.
