Some of the 25 strong Pranksters Cast for Brassed Off

Coming soon to Guildford’s Electric Theatre with live music from The Friary Guildford Brass Band is a stage adaptation of the multi award-winning film Brassed Off.

Released in 1996, the film, which starred Pete Postlethwaite, Ewan McGregor, Stephen Tomkinson and Tara Fitzgerald, received international acclaim. It was closely followed by the sell-out stage adaptation by Paul Allen, which premiered at The Crucible Theatre Sheffield before a hugely successful national UK tour.

This production brings together a cast of 25 actors and band members from two Guildford born community groups; The Pranksters Theatre company (performing since 1977) and The Friary Guildford Brass Band (performing and competing since 1983).

The two groups have been busy rehearsing together since January, trading tips and learning each other’s art to bring this magnificent play to the stage in May. You only have to hear one arrangement played by The Friary Band during this show to understand why their recent success of reaching the National Finals of the Championship Section at The Royal Albert Hall in October is so rightfully deserved.

Marie Gardner of Prankster’s Theatre said: “Brassed Off is a truly heart-warming story of real people in recent history. With some of the most iconic and rousing brass tunes played live throughout the performance every night, this promises to be a unique and highly entertaining experience for theatre-goers and brass music lovers alike.

“We have a very strong cast and a great show lined up with the wonderful combination of a great story and live Brass tunes. This is a really exciting production for us and a great story on the collaboration of two community groups to bring this show to the stage.”

Brassed Off will run at The Electric Theatre 1st – 4th May. Tickets are £12.50 full or £10:50 concessions and are available from The Electric Theatre box office on 01483 444789 or online at: www.guildford.gov.uk/electrictheatre  Age recommendation 14+
