A cleaner has been cautioned by the police having been caught on camera in the act of stealing from an employer’s wallet.
Stephen Thair, a Guildford resident, who describes himself as an ‘IT geek’ set up a webcam trap having become suspicious of his cleaner’s honesty.
Mr Thair said: “I handed over the video and all the information to Surrey Police. As I understand it, they questioned her and she confessed but got off with just a caution, no conviction. She is now free to perhaps steal from other unwary employers.”

A spokesperson for Surrey police said: “Surrey Police can confirm that a 37-year-old woman from Guildford was arrested on suspicion of theft on 6 March 2013.
“She was interviewed at Woking Police Station and was given a caution.
“Every case is assessed on its own merits. If a caution is issued, it is only done following careful consideration of the individual circumstances. These circumstances include whether the offender has any previous convictions.
“In any case, where a caution is issued, there needs to be a clear admission of guilt as the offender is left with a criminal record.
“If you are employing home help and have any concerns, you should seek references from past employers and/or use a reputable agency and check what vetting they carry out on their staff.”
