The Guildford Christians Against Poverty (CAP) debt centre has a new manager.

Helen Kershaw has taken up the role from Jane Seals, who is retiring after 12 years in post.

The debt centre is run in partnership with 17 churches across Guildford and the lead church is now Grace Church, Guildford, where Helen is a member.

Helen will lead the centre, which offers free debt help to local people, supporting them to escape the overwhelming pressure and struggle that comes with unmanageable debt.

Helen said: “I’m really excited to take over from Jane. I have been working with her for 18 months as a debt coach so I’ve seen how in recent years Christians Against Poverty’s debt centre  here in Guildford has helped to transform the lives of countless local people in debt. Since the centre opened in 2012, 108 clients have become debt free and around £1.2 million of debt has been cleared.”

Helen added that the Guildford Debt Centre is one of around 300 CAP debt centres across the UK. Helen and her team offer free home visits to anyone in the area who is struggling with debt and will support them to become debt free.

Helen continued: “The great thing about CAP’s free service is that it is available to everyone. If you know things are out of control and you’re feeling stressed, missing meals or losing sleep, please give us a call and let us support you in getting your life back on track.”

If you’re struggling with your finances, you can find out more about the services CAP offers in your area by visiting capuk.org/help or calling 0800 328 0006.
